The clever title captured a larger truth. You expand on that theme here. "He must become greater; I must become less" (John 3: 30).

There are two obstacles to this. One is our ego. Our sinful nature does not readily yield to a higher authority.

The other obstacle is demonic. Deferring to another human being (as opposed to God) can be dangerous. Cult leaders and false prophets have lured many to destruction.

Our focus must be on Christ. His yoke is easy and His burden light (Matt. 11:30). Only He can light the darkness.Anna Waldherrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01377098283587277926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598785910550333487.post-27742230527309581152016-10-21T10:03:09.422-07:002016-10-21T10:03:09.422-07:00You're very welcome, David!

These days everything is getting...You are so right! These days everything is getting confused. With grief, I find that many in the visible church have been overcome by a spirit of drunkenness instead of hearing the warning to be sober-minded. Many cannot really discern the times we're in. Many are still in the "let's drink and be merry" stage of superficial Christianity, at best.

I've been posting some on Facebook on this USA election. Perhaps because I'm not American, I can see things with a more objective eye, and to me, it is mind boggling to see so many in the Evangelical community rallying around Trump, and supporting him in spite of all the nasty things that have come out.

Once again, I can see the result of not abiding in His word:

It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.

This is pure and simple idolatry! And for this, the USA will face God's judgment. I hope that He will have mercy and wake up His children. I believe Clinton will probably get elected, and though her acting skills are better, the situation doesn't look good.

And yet, what you say is so true... We're not to meditate on evil, to ruminate negative thoughts. More than ever, we need to listen to God's voice! And we need to be merciful towards those who are falling and help them be restored.

This is what the Holy Spirit is telling me we have to seek:
Jude's epistle reads,
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

James' letter ends like this,
19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

And Paul also speaks about being merciful in Galatians 6.
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

As God has been merciful with us, we need to be gentle, merciful and forgiven with others, and if at all possible, try to restore our brothers and sisters who have fallen. The ones who definitely don't want to repent... we leave judgment to God.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17936946937484720529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598785910550333487.post-28128925268234029742016-10-20T18:13:21.637-07:002016-10-20T18:13:21.637-07:00Thank you for this, Sister. The Lord has ALWAYS been faithful in all of my work history, and I've been working for 20 years now (my first paid job was when I was 19).
I don't know if I've mentioned this to you and Michael, but I have this dream "ministry" of one day being a full-time writer. I don't call that a dream job because I don't plan to get any money out of that, at least, not in the traditional sense. If I ever get to write the novel that waits unwritten in my brain ("downloading" from brain to typing fingers to computer has proved a downright disaster for +15 years), my plan is to offer it on my website (which I don't have yet, another detail, haha) for free, to anyone who may wish to read it.
But I'm digressing again! I just wanted to mention that, though I love what I'm doing now, I still, in a sense, depend on a paycheck. I'm freer now and I have the huge blessing that perhaps with 4-6 hours of work per day I can earn enough for our family's needs. But I'm still aiming higher, and hoping to get there someday. Higher ground. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17936946937484720529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598785910550333487.post-17749473221576181672016-10-06T14:55:47.437-07:002016-10-06T14:55:47.437-07:00I sure believe the Lord will inspire many good wri...I sure believe the Lord will inspire many good writings, too. Right now, though, my priority is in "being" rather than "doing", so I'm abiding at the Master's feet receiving His teachings, exhortations and encouragement. I sure welcome brothers and sisters sharing what the Lord's been teaching them, and find that, more often than not, the awesome Holy Spirit is giving them the same lessons and the same passages as I'm receiving. How awesome is that?
As regards your wife, I grieve for you but ask you to be very patient. As you have read in this post, not more than a month ago, I was exactly where your wife is at today. You cannot force a person to snap out of that state. You may speak words of life to her and she may be totally unable or unwilling to receive them. She may "know" a lot of spiritual truths and yet be in a situation where she has ceased to believe them and walk in them. But you can pray.
I can tell you, my dear brother, that I am where I am now because there were people ceaselessly praying for me (you among them, for which I'm deeply grateful), and BELIEVING that God would revive me. Believe that God will have mercy on Mercy. Pun intended. Be merciful with her as Jesus has been merciful with you. Be meek and humble like Jesus is. Keep praying and proclaiming God's Word in your own prayer closet.
What Mercy needs is a heart renewal. She will lose interest in secular things when Jesus touches her heart and woos her to His love. When the Bridegroom attracts us, suddenly there is little time for "secular" things, because we cannot get enough of Him. Pray for His love to attract her to His presence again, and you won't need to do any talking. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17936946937484720529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598785910550333487.post-62228918746884791882016-10-06T14:45:15.743-07:002016-10-06T14:45:15.743-07:00Thank you so much for taking the time to visit. Jesus Christ spoke of His joy in John 15:10-11 and 17:13 in which He claimed the ability or power to bestow His joy into His believers. Joy is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit for believers (Galatians 5:22-23). Jesus Christ’s followers should be joyful people. It is the best testimony about the wonderfulness of being a Christian: that one is able to be very positive in a very negative world. So many individuals are usually sad or indifferent; just surviving. If you would work for someone who is joyful, wouldn’t you probably become joyful? Luke 10:21 tells us that Jesus was full of joy through the Holy Spirit after seventy-two disciples returned from to witness. If we have the same joy, we will want to praise God. Jesus Christ did in that verse. No one will be the same as before after committing his or her whole being to Jesus and knowing Him as personal Savior and Master.

It is not easy to describe this joy which the Apostle Peter referred to in 1 Peter 1:8 as an “inexpressible and glorious joy”. It is far more than the happiness which relationships with humans and animals can give. Certainly there are legitimate pleasures in the world that can be enjoyed more fully when one has the joy of the Holy Spirit. But the joy of the Holy Spirit is set apart from all the levels of purely human joy. It is the result of faith in God. Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”. Divine joy is much better than the best happiness in secular situations/activities. In English, the word “happiness” is not in the KJV Bible and the twenty-five verses with the word “happy” give no indication that happiness is from the Godhead. Doesn’t that sound exciting to you? Don’t settle for less than joy just because you are lonely. God’s best for us is always worth waiting for.

Joy from the Holy Spirit is not dependent on our outward circumstances. Also knowing about the joy in Heaven should help all Christians to tolerate any kind of persecution. Also, about 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ’s hope for future joy in Heaven sustained Him in His painful crucifixion. Hebrews 12:2 says that Jesus “endured the cross for the joy set before Him”. The Apostle Paul recognized this when he wrote to the Thessalonians: “In spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit”. Spiritual joy endures even in hardships, because it is developed from within by the Holy Spirit. In Philippians 4:4, just before he was to be beheaded for teaching Christianity, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Rejoice in The Lord always, and again I say rejoice.” When I share that tough command, I add, “In any situation, things could always be worse and there is always something to be thankful for, right?” So having joy is a matter of choice and proper relationship with God.
